It's been almost a month since Kayla Ferrante's parents said goodbye to their daughter. The 17- year-old was shot inside a car heading home from a party. Police have few leads. So the parents are now asking for help and they say someone out there has the information they need.
"The goal was get it up and put an amount out there to trigger someone to come forward and say something. I saw something or I knew something or anything," says Paul Ferrante, Kayla's father.
Both Paul Ferrante and Roxanne Thornton are working with the Crime Commission to get the reward amount up.
"When a case is starting to really go cold, it's real important that we help the police. Give them some new leads to follow through," says Crime Commission Executive Director, Carol Bush.
The Tulsa Police Department has followed every lead but they are still looking for that person to say this is what happened and who did it. Not knowing the answers is the hardest part of Kayla's mother.
"I don't understand the person that can sleep at night knowing that this innocent girl was taken," says Roxanne Thornton, Kayla's mother.
If this crime is solved by not using the anonymous tip line all the money raised in Kayla's name will go back to Memorial High Schools Special Needs Program. Which is what her parents want and something very different for the crime commission.
"The kids that were so important to her we are going to see that they benefit from what she would have done for them in the future, that got taken away from them," says Paul Ferrante.
Kayla's parents are working hard to help solve this crime because they want the bad memories to someday be replaced with only remembering the good.
"My last memory was standing in that car next to the car trying to stop the bleeding on what ended up being her last night. I have those memories too. Those are the ones that wake me up in the middle of the night. That keep me awake all night," says Thornton.
