Grady County, OK -

A man died Sunday after a motorcycle wreck early Saturday morning.

59-year-old Francis Duane Smith of Tuttle was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on U.S. Highway 81 Business Route when he tried to merge onto U.S. Highway 81 but drove off the road to the left, hit a reflector post and a curb, and then fell sideways—according to an OHP Troop G report.

The accident happened Saturday morning just before 12:30 a.m.

Mr. Smith was taken by Medi-Flight to O.U. Medical Center in Oklahoma City in critical condition but died on Sunday due to his injuries.

Troopers investigating the crash reported that Smith had been drinking and traveling at an unsafe speed.  He reportedly had not been wearing a helmet.

The OHP report indicated that the weather was clear and that road conditions were good.
