Two Union Pacific trains collided in the Oklahoma panhandle, sparking a diesel fire Sunday morning.

Texas County Emergency Management Director Harold Tyson said officials received emergency calls a little after 10:00 a.m. that the trains had crashed.

The collision and resulting fire forced the closure of U.S. Highway 54 from Guymon to Texhoma.

At least one train was carrying chemicals, but Tyson said the fire hadn't burned close to them.

He said no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The burned remains of the three victims were recovered and sent to the state Medical Examiner's office in Oklahoma City.

A fourth crewmember jumped from one of the trains and suffered minor injuries.

Guymon Daily Herald Managing Editor Shawn Yorks told KTUL.com that West Texas Gas was on scene to shut off the main gas line servicing Guymon, Goodwell, and Texhoma.

Red Cross volunteers and staff from Woodward and Guymon were providing emergency assistance to approximately fifty first responders.

U.S. Highway 54 reopened Monday night at 10:30 p.m.

Goodwell is about 270 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.
