Tuesday marks the one month anniversary of the death of Kayla Ferrante. Her family and friends will gather Tuesday evening to honor her with a candlelight vigil on the corner where she was shot,15th and 122nd East Ave.
On May 26th, Kayla was riding home from a friend's house when someone with a high powered rifle fired six shots. One of the bullets went through the car's license plate and struck Kayla in the back. She was then rushed to the hospital, but died later from her injuries.
The night before she was killed, Kayla graduated from Memorial High School. She graduated a year early with plans to volunteer at the Little Lighthouse this summer. Her dream was to work with disabled children.
Her family says she had a passion for helping people, whether it was helping her friends with a problem or working with children on a recent mission trip. She truly had a concern for others.
The candlelight vigil will take place Tuesday night from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M. The family encourages everyone who knew and loved Kayla to come and support her and the continued search for justice in this case.
The family's goal is to continue to raise awareness in hopes that someone will come forward with information.
