Human Error May Be To Blame For Train Collision

Goodwell -

Human error is likely to blame for a deadly train accident in Goodwell, Oklahoma this weekend.

The head-on crash caused a huge diesel explosion and killed three Union Pacific workers.

One conductor was able to jump from his train before the crash and survived.

The State Medical Examiner said Tuesday, it had received the remains of the three men killed in Sunday's accident.

The NTSB says it appears the signals were working properly at the time, and that one of two trains should have pulled onto a side track.

And Gil Carmichael, a former official at the Federal Railroad Administration, says if the signals were working properly, crew members were likely at fault.

U.S. Highway 54 southwest from Guymon reopened to traffic on Tuesday following Sunday's crash.
