Do You Need A Fireworks Permit?

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa does not allow fireworks to be used in city limits, but some surrounding suburban communities are expecting families to fire up fireworks.  But in return, they want you to buy a permit.

In the city of Sand Springs you can't even buy fireworks. Residents have to go to  the outskirts of town and if you buy a package of black cats and pop them. in the town, be prepared to pay.

They are selling new explosive and high powered fireworks and everyone knows the rules.

"Some people have or they don't  pay attention to it, or they don't' live in the city limits," said Jeffrey Price, who works the booth for his church youth group.

In the city limits,  police will be out and so will the marshal--writing citations.

"The funds allow us to put more officers on the street patrolling during those times to make sure everyone is shooting fireworks safely," said Stan Smith, Sand Springs Fire Marshal.

Jeffrey Tate likes the idea of fireworks permits  to keep his members safe.

"And then another is if you don't have 20-dollars and you want to shoot off sparklers with your  baby girl. I don't think it's worth it for 20-dollars for a permit," said Tate.

The risk could mean at least a 154-dollar ticket.

The marshal says common violations are fireworks past 11-pm.

"The best advice, stay safe, be careful. It's getting dry out there, very hot. The grass and vegetation is drying out. Keep a water hose close by. Keep water bucket to put fireworks in after used," said Smith.

The fireworks and permits are both on sale right now but as for permits, they expire the night of July 4th.
