The Helmerich Center for American Research held a construction celebration Wednesday morning.
The new research center will be an extension of Thomas Gilcrease's mission to preserve and promote the art, history, and culture of the Americas. Osage Chief Red Eagle gave a blessing at the ceremony that recognized the donors for the project.
The University of Tulsa announced plans to develop and construct the research center back in September of 2010. The Hemerich Center will enhance the scholarship opportunities and secure broader international attention for the museum and Tulsa.
