Creek County -

Multiple fire crews began battling a grass fire Thursday afternoon.

It started from 33 highway and came this way, said Ernestine Brown. A Blackhawk emerging from the smoke filled horizon heading to one of her ponds for water, while down below her neighbor was picking up round bales two at a time.

"He's trying to get it out before, up here close, before it did jump and burn his hay up," she said.

Upwards of six volunteer departments spanned out across an area twelve square miles.

"We're starting to win," said one firefighter.

A victory that still contained hot spots like a blazing oil battery under the watchful eye of a Drumright fire fighter. And down the road...

"When I pulled in I had a neighbor sitting here, she said I didn't know if you were gonna be home I was just ready to grab a water hose," said Matt Hodson. A back-fire set near his property to keep the blaze at bay as firefighters kept watch.

"They got crews fighting, people filling water, people bringing food, they've been working out here all day long," he said.

A community effort that resulted in no injuries and no structures lost.

"Everybody pulls together and we just get it done," he said.
