A registered sex offender was arrested Thursday for failing to notify authorities of being fired from his job.

54-year-old Richard Wayne Carson had been homeless but had a job when he registered as a sex offender on April 25th.

Mr. Carson was staying in the grass on the underpass at approximately 700 North Grand Avenue at the time.

Oklahoma's Sex Offender Registration Act requires registered offenders to notify the local law enforcement when changing or terminating employment.

According to Enid Police Sergeant Dustin Albright, Carson had been fired from his job as of May 31st.

Sgt. Albright stated that he observed Carson at an Enid museum giving a talk to some children about the changes in jail environment from the old days to jails of today Thursday afternoon.

According to the Enid Police Department, Carson became "argumentative and loud" when Albright approached Carson and asked about his failure to notify police of his change in employment status.

Sgt. Albright arrested Carson and took him to the Garfield County Detention Facility.

"It was unfortunate that it had to happen in front of children but it was unforeseen," Sgt. Albright said. "Today they actually got a presentation of how somebody goes to jail."
