Bret Michaels Reaches Out to Tulsan

Poison frontman Bret Michaels reached out Thursday to a local business owner who was a fellow patient at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.

Michaels received treatment at Barrow, within St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, in 2010 for a brain hemorrhage. Susan Ponville underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor she had been told at other facilities was inoperable.

Now that both have overcome their brain conditions, Michaels invited Ponville and her family backstage at his concert at the Hard Rock in Catoosa to meet one another. Despite the brace on Ponville's left leg, Michaels told her, "I promise you. I promise you. You'll be dancing. I'm going to make you dance."

Michaels has donated money to Barrow to build a new lounge for patients. He told Channel 8 his perspective on life has changed since his experience.

"It's a combination of a couple things," said Michaels to Ponville. "And I said one of them is the grace of God. It was not our time to go yet. We still got some work to do yet. And then number two is great medical attention, great family, you know. It's that combination of all that stuff. It puts, you know, as you said before and I said before, it puts that life in perspective pretty quick of how valuable it is."

After their meeting, Ponville said meeting Michaels was "surreal." She, her husband, and her daughters stayed to enjoy the concert.

A representative for Barrow told Channel 8 Friday Michaels called Ponville earlier in the day to see how she liked the show.
