A man is dead following an ATV crash Saturday night.
48-year-old Leslie F. Shaw of Jay was driving an Arctic Cat four-wheeler ATV eastbound on a County Road northwest of Jay when he ran off the road to the right and hit a tree—according to an OHP Troop L report.
The accident happened Saturday just before 9:00 p.m.
Mr. Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene from head and torso injuries and was taken to Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.
39-year-old Colisa Keely of Jay, Shaw's passenger, was reportedly taken by Grove EMS to INTEGRIS Grove Hospital and later airlifted by EagleMed to Freeman Hospital in Joplin with torso and leg injuries—where she was treated and released.
It was unclear from the OHP report whether the ATV was equipped with buckle and latch belts.
According to the OHP report, Mr. Shaw may have been driving at an unsafe speed.
