Warnings For Local Lakes About Blue Algae

Posted: Updated:

At least three area lakes have tested positive for blue green algae and could pose a risk to both humans and pets.

According to travelok.com certain parts of Lake Tenkiller, Lake Fort Gibson and Lake Eufaula have elevated algae counts.

In Tenkiller, the Elk Creek area should be avoided. People and pets should avoid contact with the water. It can cause vomiting, respiratory illness and a rash.

At Fort Gibson, the same goes for the Rocky Point Beach area.

And at Lake Eufaula, swimmers and pets should avoid Porum Landing.

Again the water is not safe from human or animal contact or consumption.

Other parts of these lakes are safe for recreation.
