The Tulsa Fire Department told Channel 8 it responded to more than 80 firework-related problems over the July 4th holiday.

Five of those problems were structural fires with minimal damage. One man Channel 8 spoke with said he woke up to find his roof on fire.

"They said that is was from a firecracker," said Richard McDaniel. He said he does not think people should be shooting fireworks near homes.

The Fire Department said dry conditions made it ripe for fires. No one was seriously injured.

Still, the Fire Department said things could have been a lot worse.

"Think about it. You have a city of 370- to 400,000 people and all you had was 80 fire-related runs? That's pretty good," said Tim Smallwood for the Fire Department. He said things have gotten better over time as the word gets out of the illegality of fireworks. He expects more people to obey the law with time.

Fines for shooting off fireworks within city limits are about $220.

Tulsa Police confirmed two patrol cars were hit with Roman Candles on the fourth. No one has been arrested, but police said those responsible could have to pay the fireworks fine plus face possible assault charges.
