Tulsa Swimmers Compete In Swimaroo

Posted: Updated:

Some of Tulsa's best swimmers showed off their talent Monday night.

They took part in the 59th annual Swimaroo.

143 swimmers, ages 5 and up, gathered at McClure Park, 7440 E 7th St., to compete.

The event was open to all levels of swimming from novice to pros.

Medals and ribbons were given to the best in each age group.

The event is designed to give the swimmers a taste of real-time competition.

"A lot of them, this is the first time they've been in a 50-meter pool and that's the Olympic-sized pool," says Swim Tulsa head coach David Lynn. He adds, "It's kind of an intimidating distance to look down that pool and see how far they have to go, but once they get in and go, everybody loves it."

Lynn says the event sees a spike in attendance every 4 years, coinciding with the Summer Olympics.
