Study: Pets Make Kids Healthier

Posted: Updated:

Families with pets in the house could end up with healthier kids.

That's according to a new study from Finland.

It followed nearly 400 newborns during their first year.

Researchers found that babies who grew up with cats or dogs had fewer ear infections and respiratory problems.

The authors say animal interaction helps a baby's immune system to mature more quickly.

They also found that kids with pets needed less medication even when they were sick.

Researchers say families with dogs that go outside had the best results.
