American Airlines, Transport Workers Union Reach Agreement

Posted: Updated:
Dallas, TX -

The Transport Workers Union has reached a tentative agreement with American Airlines.

AA filed for Chapter 11 last year.  Since then, the company has presented options to the workers to keep layoffs down

The new settlement includes a 3% pay raise for maintenance workers.  Health benefits have also been improved from previous offers.

The company's original plan meant 2600 layoffs in Tulsa alone.

The new deal is expected to head to a vote August 8th.  It's not clear how it will affect Tulsa workers.

Mike Neal, President and CEO of the Tulsa Metro Chamber says, "The Chamber applauds the leadership of the Transport Workers Union and American Airlines management for reaching a tentative agreement on the Maintenance and Operations labor contract. We hope this positive agreement will be ratified by the full TWU membership, ultimately aiding the company in successfully emerging from Chapter 11 reorganization. Working with Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett, Tulsa County Commission Chairman John Smaligo, regional mayors, Tulsa County Commissioners, Tulsa City Council and other partners, the Chamber remains committed to assisting TWU and American Airlines while ensuring the aerospace sector continues to preserve and grow aerospace jobs in the Tulsa region."
