Woman Dies in Jackson County Collision

A woman is dead following a collision near the Texas border Thursday night.

59-year-old Rhonda Klapper of Childress, Texas, was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck southbound on State Highway 6 when the truck crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Freightliner truck trailer—according to an OHP Troop M report.

Ms. Klapper was reportedly pinned for approximately two hours and twenty minutes before being freed by the Quanah Fire Department in Hardeman County, Texas.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus.

The accident happened just after 10:15 p.m., less than a mile north of the Oklahoma-Texas state line in Jackson County.

39-year-old Wallace Galyean of Childress, Texas, the driver of the Frieghtliner, was not injured.

The OHP report indicated that both Klapper and Galyean were wearing seatbelts. The airbag in the Ford deployed properly, and the Freightliner had no airbag.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
