Blue Dome Diner to Close its Doors

Downtown Tulsa -

The Blue Dome Diner is preparing to close its doors at the end of July after six and a half years of business.

Owner Brian Prewitt told Channel 8 Monday the cost of rent downtown is getting to be too much. He is beginning to search for a new location, though potentially not in its original Blue Dome District.

"You're still going to smell bacon and fresh-baked bread and biscuits and gravy no matter where we're at," said Prewitt. "It's going to be the same food."

However, the restaurant's name will change, as Prewitt does not own the rights to the name. He runs his own catering company and will probably associate his new restaurant with that.

Customers say they are devastated to see one of their favorite downtown restaurants closing. Several of them had not yet heard the news when Channel 8 asked them about it.

"I see some of the same people when we come downtown, so I know there's a regular crew that comes. Not just me," said customer Denise Kilman. "So, I'm really sad to hear about the news."

Channel 8 spoke with the diner's landlord Michael Sager over the phone Monday. He said he has not raised rent for the diner and there is not yet a renter for the soon to be empty space.

The restaurant will close July 29th.
