The Oklahoma program added its 18th appearance on national college football awards preseason watch lists Tuesday as Kenny Stills was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list.
The junior receiver appears on the preseason watch list for the award, given annually to the nation's top wide receiver, for the second consecutive season. OU has had a finalist for the award the last two years as the NCAA career receptions holder, Ryan Broyles, finished in the top three of voting for the award in 2010 and 2011.
Stills started all 11 games that he saw action in last season, earning All-Big 12 second team honors after finishing the year with 61 receptions for 849 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Encinitas, Calif., native crossed the 1,000-yard receiving mark last season against Texas with his 77th career reception, becoming the second-fastest Sooner to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark behind Broyles (69 receptions). In that same game, Stills became just the fourth Sooner with multiple receiving touchdowns in a game vs. Texas as he hauled in two touchdowns, one of six games he scored in.
University of Arkansas senior Cobi Hamilton is on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, it was announced Tuesday.
Hamilton, who is on the watch list for the second straight year, made a career-high 34 receptions in 2011 for 542 yards and four touchdowns. The Texarkana, Texas, native ranked fifth in the SEC last season with an average of 15.9 yards per catch, and his career average of 17.9 yards per reception is the highest among current Razorbacks. He enters the 2012 season with a streak of at least one reception in 22 straight games and is ninth on Arkansas' all-time career 100-yard receiving games list with four. Hamilton also is tied for 11th all-time in school history with 13 receiving touchdowns in his career and is 15th on UA's all-time career receiving yards list with 1,519. In 2011, he totaled a season-high 132 receiving yards on a season-high five catches with one touchdown in the 52-3 win vs. New Mexico and the next week tied his season high with five receptions for 82 yards in a 38-28 win vs. Troy.
The Biletnikoff Award Watch List is Hamilton's third preseason honor in the last eight days. He was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List and a first-team performer on the Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team last week.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. The award recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of over 180 prominent football journalists, commentators and receivers. The 2012 winner will be presented live on Dec. 6 on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast on ESPN.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., will announce 10 semifinalists on Nov. 12 and three finalists on Nov. 19. The Biletnikoff Award winner will receive his trophy before 600 patrons at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla., on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.
The Biletnikoff Award is named for Fred Biletnikoff, a member of the pro and college football halls of fame. Biletnikoff was an All-Pro receiver with the Oakland Raiders and an All-American receiver at Florida State University. He caught 589 passes for 8,974 yards and 76 touchdowns in his 14-year Raiders career from 1965-78 and was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XI.
