Two Mounds Police officers have been charged with embezzlement.

Former Chief Chad Long turned himself in to Creek County officials Tuesday night. His bond was set at $50,000.

Former Deputy Chief Jerry Grafton turned himself in to Creek County officials Wednesday afternoon. His bond was set at $2500.

Long and Grafton were suspended in June for allegedly taking $5000 each from a purse in their evidence room in 2010.

According to court documents, Diana Banks found a purse that contained drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a bag containing bundles of $100 dollar bills outside the Mounds Dollar General in September of 2010.

Banks reportedly found more than $40,000 inside the purse and decided to take it to the Mounds Police Department.

Only $17,100 was reportedly inside the purse when former Deputy Chief Grafton turned the money over to the Creek County District Attorney's Office on November 2, 2010.

According to the Creek County Jail, both Long and Grafton bonded out on Wednesday.

Both have been charged with one felony count each of embezzlement.

A court date has not been set.

Long and Grafton had been Mounds' only police officers. According to the Creek County Sheriff's Office, however, an interim police chief has been appointed.
