
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State tied for the most selections to the 2012 Preseason All-Big 12 Team with five, while freshman receiver Trey Metoyer was tabbed as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
OU had three selections on the offensive side of the ball in center Ben Habern, offensive lineman Gabe Ikard and receiver Kenny Stills while placing two on the defensive side, safety Tony Jefferson and defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland.
OSU has a pair of offensive selections in senior lineman Lane Taylor (Arlington, Texas) and junior running back Joseph Randle (Wichita, Kan.). Taylor leads all current Cowboys with 36 career starts and has already been named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy. Randle was a second-team all-league pick last season and is a 2012 watch list member for the Maxwell Award.
Defensively, Brodrick Brown (Houston) is a first-team all-league pick. He was an All-Big 12 selection last season and is already on preseason watch lists for the Thorpe Award, Nagurski Trophy, Bednarik Award, and the Lott IMPACT Trophy. Brown was a semifinalist for Lott and Thorpe honors last season.
Quinn Sharp (Mansfield, Texas) is the first-team all-league pick at both punter and kicker one year after being named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year. He is the reigning All-Big 12 performer at both positions. In 2011, he became the first dual all-league pick in conference history. Sharp has already been awarded All-America honors as both a punter and kicker.
The media Preseason Big 12 Poll will be released on Thursday, followed by the annual Big 12 Media Days in Dallas, July 23-24.
