Tulsa City Councilor GT Bynum
The Best Buy homicides have been met with public outrage and swift police work. Today, city officials called for continued action.
"Constant pressure on gangs in Tulsa, and that we be putting gang members in jail," said Tulsa city councilor GT Bynum.
Last summer law enforcement conducted operation triple beam aimed at gang eradication, word this afternoon, a similar program is in the works.
"We're starting a multi-jurisdictional initiative again using US Marshal service, some other federal agencies, Tulsa County Sheriff's office., actually probably going to use some state agencies this time, possibly, to do gang sweeps," said Tulsa police chief Chuck Jordan.
"That's exactly the kind of crackdown that I think those of us on the council were hoping to hear about," said Bynum.
As for future department needs? The chief says manpower is a need.
"I think that our manning right of our gang unit is adequate, but as effective as they are I'm certainly willing to give them more so they can be even more effective," said Jordan.
"We need to continue to provide him with more and more manpower," said Bynum.
