A Mass Shooting Incident at a suburban Denver Movie Theater, Friday Morning, has left 12 people dead and at least 70 injured.
ABC News reports that people were gathered inside the Century 16 Theaters in Aurora, Colorado for a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" when a lone gunman entered the theater wearing a gas mask and riot gear and then opened fire. Reports from the scene indicate that some sort of explosive device was used during the incident.
ABC Affiliate KMGH-TV reports, at least 12 to 15 shots were fired inside the theater. Witnesses told KMGH that bullets pierced the walls of an adjoining theater as well.
The shooting suspect has been identified as 24 year-old James Holmes. According to ABC News, Holmes was pursuing neuroscience studies at the University of Colorado.
Holmes was apprehended in a nearby parking lot while still wearing the riot gear. Police also recovered three weapons from him.
Holmes told authorities that there were explosives inside his residence in North Aurora. A subsequent search of Holmes' apartment revealed a cache of explosives. Authorities evacuated the complex and placed the area on lockdown.
Authorities still have yet to figure out how to proceed with disposing of the explosives with out setting them off.
Federal authorities are on the ground in Aurora and are treating this as an "Active Shooter Investigation."
