Funeral For Gene Stipe Scheduled For Tuesday

  A funeral for former State Senator Gene Stipe will be held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of McAlester at 2:00 PM.

  Stipe died at his home on Saturday at age 85.

  He had the longest continuous run of any US State Senator serving from 1957 to 2003 when he resigned during a campaign financing scandal.

  Former Governor George Nigh and newspaper publisher Frosty Troy are among the scheduled speakers.

  • For the past three years, the 3 Gun Nation Pro Series shooting competition has only been for men. This year, they are opening it up to an elite group of women, and a Tulsa Police officer is one of those women. Ten ladies have earned their spot on this pro series. Each pro has to use a riffle, shotgun, and pistol, and it's not easy to be a master of all three.
