Fire crews work to put out a house fire in the 3300 block of East King Pl.
North Tulsa -
Tulsa Firefighters are working to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a North Tulsa home early Friday Evening.
Firefighters were called to the home in the 3300 block of East King Place just before 6 o'clock. Smoke from the fire was visible as far away as West Tulsa.
District Chief Bennie Herring tells KTUL.com, it's believed the fire started in back of the house, destroying a shed and damaging an attached garage. Several cars in back of the home were also destroyed.
Herring says at least two people were in the home at the time of the fire. They, along with several pets, were able to escape safely.
At this point, investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Chief Herring reminds residents to be extremely vigilant of open flames the next couple of weeks. He says because he "doesn't see any break in this weather pattern that we have, everything around an open flame or spark has the potential to ignite because the humidity is almost down to nothing."
The Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping with the family's immediate needs.
