Voluntary Water Rationing In Tulsa

Posted: Updated:

Water is sometimes wasted in driveways, sidewalks and sometimes even in the street like this pothole. This is water we can't afford to waste. Lush green lawns, trees and shrubs, they come at a price.

"That is why the urgency of my request to our citizens."

Tulsa's Mayor appealing to conserve water.

"Please, please please voluntarily conserve the use of water immediately."

Today the mayor signed an executive order asking Tulsa residents to voluntarily limit all outside watering. This follows yesterday's water usage 207 million gallons and 198 million gallons on Sunday.

"And we're about to reach our maximum ability to deliver water."

The City's Clayton Edwards...on water watch duty.

"We want our customers to be aware of the water that you're using.

While The city has an adequate supply of water the problem is with its ability to treat and pump water into the distribution system. July's-- 5 year average is 137 million gallons a day. This month is averaging 174 million daily.

"And we're about to reach our maximum ability to deliver water."

We delivered the city's water woes to a neighborhood with green lawns and sprinkler systems.

Madde Smith willing to let the green go...

"Oh yeah I can definitely, we can definitely."

After all lives could be on the line as we've seen with firefighters battling grassfires.

"So how are you going to convince your family to do that, will it take some convincing?" I'll just be like we're saving lives instead of watering flowers.

We should know in the morning if we've exceeded our water usage. if that's case there's be mandatory water rationing.
