Turnpike Authority Re-Opens Turner Turnpike

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority re-opened the Turner Turnpike Friday night after a three-hour closure.

Turnpike Authority public information officer Jack Damrill told KTUL.com just before 7:00 p.m. Friday that the Turner Turnpike westbound, from Tulsa to Oklahoma City, would be closed until further notice.

Eastbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike were also closed from Oklahoma City to the Wellston and Chandler areas.

Travelers coming to Tulsa from Oklahoma City were urged to take I-40 West to Highway 75 North.

KTUL.com learned at 10:15 p.m. that both the westbound and eastbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike had been re-opened.

On Sunday night a tornado went through the town of Carney. It destroyed or damaged about 40 homes. When you look out at the area there are homes in every direction that show some kind of damage. Some of the families that have lived there for 17 years and have never been through anything like this. They didn't even have enough time to get their family in the shelter.
