Due to the extreme wild fires throughout Oklahoma, the Principal Chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation has declared a burn ban on Tribal lands within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

"I have been monitoring this situation closely for the last two days," said Principal Chief George Tiger, "and it is imperative that the citizens of the Muscogee Creek Nation refrain from burning or fire activity on Tribal lands to ensure the safety of your families."

The ban prohibits outdoor burning, campfires and, bonfires, with the exception of ceremonial or religious purposes, where all precautions should be undertaken.

Governor Mary Fallin's burn ban, issued Friday, did not apply to Tribal lands.
