Firefighters: Winds Increase Fire Threat in Creek County

A fire burns through Creek County on Saturday. Firefighters are continuing to put out hot spots on Tuesday.

Creek County -

Firefighters are building containment lines and putting out hot spots in Creek County as the fire danger continues in Oklahoma.

At a press conference Tuesday, firefighters said the Creek County fire burned more than 58,000 acres.

Firefighters plan to spend this afternoon and the next couple of days building containment lines and watching for hot spots as increased winds are expected to increase the fire danger for the area tomorrow.

Officials said 30 to 40 miles of containment lines have already been constructed around the 56-mile perimeter of the fire.

Highways in the area opened up at 7 a.m. this morning and residents are being allowed to returned to their homes.
Residents are asked to call 911 to report hot spots and looters.

On Sunday night a tornado went through the town of Carney. It destroyed or damaged about 40 homes. When you look out at the area there are homes in every direction that show some kind of damage. Some of the families that have lived there for 17 years and have never been through anything like this. They didn't even have enough time to get their family in the shelter.
