Northeastern State University will started fall camp Wednesday morning in Tahlequah.. 118 players will hit the practice fields at 9:00a.m.
In a quote provided by Northeastern State, NSU Head Football Coach Kenny Evans is excited to get the season underway. "The players coming back to campus signals that football season is right around the corner," Evans said. "I'm excited to strap on the pads and start to prepare for the first game of the season."
The RiverHawks will practice in shorts and helmets for the first couple of workouts. They'll transition to helmets and shoulder pads the next two days and then put on all the pads Sunday, August 12th.
"We are required to go through five days of acclimation," Evans said. "We will have our only two-a-day on the sixth day. We use these first 10 practices or so to evaluate the talent on the roster, while also introducing the base offense and defense. After that, we'll begin preparations for our opener."
The RiverHawks jump right into the fire to start the season off. NSU will host the defending NCAA Division II National Champion Pittsburg State in the season opener. They'll take on the Gorillas on Thursday, August the 30th at 6:00p.m.
If you'd like to say hi to the 2012 RiverHawks you'll want to attend the "Meet The Riverhawks" event on Sunday, August 26th inside the practice facility.
