Crews are working to contain a major fire in Lincoln County

KOCO-TV reports a wildfire is burning six miles south and six miles east of Stroud.

An official with the Oklahoma Forestry Service said a National Guard helicopter has been dispatched to the area.

Fire officials told KOCO that the fire started Wednesday afternoon near the town of Arlington, and authorities there requested mutual aid from surrounding fire departments. Investigators said this fire may be a rekindling of a fire from Tuesday night.

According to Lincoln County Emergency Management, the cause of the Tuesday night fire may have been a lightning strike.

There was initially some speculation that structures were threatened by the fire. However, there have been no evacuations yet.
