Mannford -
Mannford volunteers hosted a pancake breakfast Saturday morning to raise money for Mannford Firefighters at Mannford Middle School.
Mannford Little Pirates, a head start program for at-risk youth, organized the event after firefighters saved its building from last week's devastating fires.
Other volunteers asked if they could help with the event out of appreciation for the firefighters. Kim Mulholland said firefighters rescued her home.
"My house would not be standing," said Mulholland. "My neighbors' houses wouldn't be standing. We're very grateful to have them. They deserve several meals actually."
Organizers posted envelopes with different dollar amounts on the wall, asking people to give to the firefighters. Additionally, the meal cost $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Several Mannford Firefighters came for the breakfast. One of them told Channel 8, "I do this to help the community, and it's great to see them [residents] all behind us and everything. I love it. That's why I help out."
Organizers said about 300 people attended the breakfast. They hope to have raised $5,000.
