A Miami Dolphins wide receiver was arrested Saturday evening for domestic violence.
34-year-old Chad Javon Johnson is accused of head-butting his newlywed wife, Evelyn Lozada, following an argument over an alleged receipt for a box of condoms.
Lozada purportedly had a laceration on her forehead and was taken to a hospital.
Johnson and Lozada were married on July 4th.
Davie Police Department officers took Johnson to the Broward County Jail Saturday night, where he will remain until he can appear before a judge.
Johnson has been charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic violence.
His bond was set at $2500.
Team officials were "aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering of relevant information," Miami Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene told Associated Press.
Johnson signed with the Miami Dolphins in June, four days after he was released by the New England Patriots. He was a six-time Professional Bowl receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Evelyn Lozada has starred in the VH1 series Basketball Wives since 2010.
