Accused Courthouse Shooter's Competency Hearing Begins Monday

Posted: Updated:
Downtown Tulsa -

A competency hearing will be held Monday for a man suspected of shooting four people outside the Tulsa County Courthouse on March 7th.

Tulsa County Sheriff Deputy David Fortenberry and bystander Ricardo Manuel were injured in the shooting spree.

Deputies returned fire, striking the suspect in the face.

23-year-old Andrew Joseph Dennehy was charged with two counts of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm after delinquent adjudication, and reckless conduct with a firearm.

Dennehy was later charged with attempting to escape from detention and assault and battery on a police officer.

Dennehy's attorney, Allen Smallwood, had argued that the wounds suffered by his client made Dennehy unable to communicate adequately with counsel to assist in his defense.

A judge had ordered a psychiatric examination for Dennehy on June 25th.
