OU Basketball To Host 2nd Annual Men's Basketball Alumni Reunion

Posted: Updated:

Details of the second annual Sooner Basketball Family Weekend alumni event were unveiled today by the University of Oklahoma men's basketball program. Head coach Lon Kruger and his staff will welcome back former players and coaches Friday-Saturday, Aug. 24-25, for a variety of events that are also accessible to the public.

Among the activities scheduled for the two-day reunion are a Tip In Club Golf Classic (Friday morning and afternoon tee times), a Friday evening Wayman Tisdale Scholarship Fund Dinner on the Lloyd Noble Center main floor honoring OU's 1988 national runner-up squad, and the Legends Alumni Game on Saturday at noon. The public is invited to attend each of the three events. Fans will be admitted to the Legends Alumni Game free of charge.

"Last year's inaugural alumni weekend was a rousing success," said Kruger, who is beginning his second year at OU, "and we can't wait to once again welcome back the players and coaches who made this program so successful and established our outstanding tradition. Rightly so, they take great pride in their accomplishments as Sooners and we're excited to facilitate the opportunity for them to get together, reminisce and have a great time back in Norman."

Former OU players and coaches will be available for autographs before and after the alumni legends game. The Pride of Oklahoma marching band will perform and concession stands will be open. Also, fans in attendance will have the opportunity to be photographed with current and former OU men's basketball players for the 2012-13 team schedule poster.

"We really encourage families and OU students to come out and enjoy a great afternoon with our former and current OU players and coaches," said Kruger of the alumni game. "It's all about family and fun, and we look forward to sharing that with all of our fans."

Last year, a lively crowd of approximately 4,000 fans showed up early and stayed late for a fun-filled Legends Alumni Game. More than 30 former players competed in the 40-minute contest that required sudden-death overtime to decide an outcome.

Members of the 1988 team scheduled to be on hand this year are Mookie Blaylock, Ricky Grace, Harvey Grant, Tyrone Jones, Stacey King, Tony Martin, Terrence Mullins, Dave Sieger, Jason Skurcenski and Andre Wiley. Head coach Billy Tubbs and assistants Mike Anderson, Jim Kerwin and Mike Mims are also slated to attend.

Some of the other many former Sooners already scheduled to participate in this year's festivities include: Steve Bajema, Al Beal, Kevin Bookout, Shawn Clark, Kenny Evans (Top Daug), Terry Evans, Garfield Heard, Skeeter Henry, Tim Heskett, Bobby Jack, Darryl "Choo" Kennedy, Joe King, David Little, John McCullough, Mike McCurdy, Scott Martin, Michael Neal, Kelley Newton, Ted Owens, Tommy Tubbs and Bryatt Vann.

Several more former player commitments are expected.
