Classes start next Monday for Tulsa Public Schools.
So Thursday, teachers were getting pumped-up for a new school year.
Their annual convocation took place this year at Clinton Middle School and featured a speaker from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Irvin Scott spoke about being an effective teacher and focusing more curriculum.
In addition, Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard says, it's time for the state to pay-up.
"Come on now. Let's support schools. Really, we shouldn't have to be begging for it. Legislative leaders and the governor ought to stand up and say 'ok'. Our revenues are up hugely. They were up $650-billion last year."
This year, Ballard also hopes to improve standardized test scores.
