The Tulsa Drillers used a six-run bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Monday night at ONEOK Field. The Drillers completed a sweep of the three-game series with the victory.
The Naturals put together a two-out run in the top of the first inning. Paulo Orlando hit his sixteenth double of the season, and later came around to score on an RBI single by Manny Pina to make it 1-0.
Alex McClure reached on a Drillers error in the top of the second inning and came around to score on an RBI-double by Ryan Jenkins to extend the lead to 2-0. The Naturals tacked on another run in the fourth inning on an RBI triple from McClure to make it 3-0.
The Drillers started their comeback in the bottom of the fourth. Troy Tulowitzki blasted his first home run of his major league rehab assignment to cut the deficit to 3-1. The big blows came in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Drillers. Chris Pettit came through with a two-out two run double, and Lars Davis blasted a three-run home run to cap a six-run inning that made it 7-3.
Mike Montgomery (2-5) went six innings allowing eight hits and seven runs, while walking one and striking out six. His counterpart Brandon Hynick (6-3) went six innings allowing five hits and three runs, only two of which were earned. Jon Keck pitched brilliantly in relief for the Naturals allowing just one hit in a pair of innings and striking out three.
