Convicted Killer Sentenced to Life in Tulsa Murder for Hire Case

Posted: Updated:

A judge has sentenced Terrico Bethel to life in prison without parole for the murder of Neal Sweeney.

The judge accepted the jury's recommendations and sentenced Bethel on Tuesday. Bethel was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder last week.

Bethel was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for the conspiracy charge and fined $15,000 for the two charges.

Bethel was charged in the murder for hire plot started by Mohammed Aziz. Aziz admitted to hiring the murder. He and Sweeney had a business conflict. Aziz owns three stores that sold gas from Sweeney's company. Sweeney cut him off for nonpayment. Aziz said he reached out to Allen Shields, who allegedly involved his brother Fred Shields, his cousin Alonzo Johnson, and Terrico Bethel to have Sweeney murdered. Sweeney was shot during business hours in his office September 4, 2008.
