Area Water Levels Still Low, Not Enough to Affect Labor Day

Skiatook Lake -

Many area lakes are still facing low water levels given this summer's drought. Skiatook Lake is about seven feet lower than it should be, but Cross Timbers Marina staff said Sunday that it is not affecting the Labor Day weekend.

There are several areas on Skiatook Lake where land that is usually under water is now above the surface. Orange and white buoys mark where water levels are low.

"Just like with most of the lakes with the drought, we're down right now," said Cross Timbers owner Ron Howell. "Fortunately, the three deepest lakes in Oklahoma are Tenkiller, Grand, and ours."

Cross Timbers Marina said these water levels are still higher than they were this time last year. In fact, it said this summer has been its biggest yet. It is currently hosting a Labor Day Extravaganza, which will bring 2,500 people to the lake this holiday weekend for food, music, golf, boat races, and more.

Monday's festivities begin at 10 a.m. at Tall Chief Cove and wrap up around 4 p.m.
