Sooners Defense Struggles Against The Run

Posted: Updated:

After struggling against UTEP over the weekend Bob Stoops received some more bad news.  The NCAA has denied Fresno State transfer Jalen Saunders request to play right away.

He must now sit out a year.

The status of defensive lineman Casey Walker hasn't changed.  He's out for personal reasons.

The Sooners gave up 207-yards rushing to the Minors Saturday.  177-yards to Nathan Jeffery who set a school record for yards rushing in the season opener.

Oklahoma needs better play against the run.  But Stoops says play at "D" tackle wasn't the problem.

"Jamarkus (McFarland) and David (King) had really good games." OU Head Football Coach Bob Stoops said, "Some of the issues in the run game wasn't because of them.  Some of it on the bend back a little better technique from the defensive ends and when they did to it properly we played it well.  Then a couple of fits.  A guy got out of position and they pop and that happens once and a while."
