Artist/Entrepreneur Makes Splash With Cool Furnishings

Posted: Updated:

It takes a second for your brain to make sense out of what it's seeing when you see it for the first time.

"I call this the faux-grow collection," said artist/garden designer Laurie Keeley. She was on a job one day trying to find some neat lawn furniture for a client...

"But nothing was on the market that I thought was really cool, so I had the left over turf and so I said I'm gonna make a turf couch," she said.

That inspiration led to a whole line of creations, including springy turf stools, and Oklahoma shaped door mats with the catchy name...

"Welcomehoma," she smiled.

"When I saw this I was like, this is cool, this is unique," said Mary Beth Babcock.

The furnishings caught her eye at Dwelling Spaces, as she's always on the lookout for the cool and trendy.

"People love, they love this couch," she said.

And not only people, but pooches too, like 14 year-old Molly. Does she ever mistake it for the real thing and do her business?

"No, never!" said Mary Beth.

"I'm sorry Molly, I didn't mean to insult you like that. You'd never do such a thing," said Channel 8's Burt Mummolo.

But even if accidents do happen, no big deal.

"This will dry in less than 24 hours even if we get two inches of rainfall. It's got perforated holes on the back so it's just meant to drain," said Laurie.

The perfect combination of form and function, of artist and entrepreneur, launching a line of greenery that will no doubt soon have her rolling in green.

"It's time to just load up a truck, go to Miami, go to LA, go to New York, go to Chicago, and just get this stuff out there," she said.
