Sooner Running Backs Emerge

Posted: Updated:

For the second straight season the Oklahoma Sooners have had a running back step to the forefront.

Last year Dominique Whaley went from walk-on to starter.  Dom rushed for 627-yards and nine touchdowns before getting injured and missing the last half of the season.

This season Damien Williams has shown he could be one of the next star running backs at Oklahoma.

The junior college transfer rushed 156-yards on 10-carries and scored four touchdowns Saturday against Florida A&M.

But with Williams efforts Saturday don't think the Sooners are down on Whaley.

"You know we're excited about Dom.  He's healthy and he's feeling good.  He's only going to keep get better." OU Head Football Coach Bob Stoops said, "He's not going anywhere with us in our eyes.  he's going to remain in there."

The Sooners are the week off before hosting Kansas State on Saturday, September 22.  Game time is set for 6:50pm in Norman.
