Saturday night the University of Tulsa will be the third of our state schools to play a Division-1AA opponent. Or FCS as they are known now.
OSU scored 84-points against Savannah State. OU had 69 against Florida A&M.
And the Golden Hurricane should be able to name their score against Nicholls State. The Colonels have won just 11-games since 2008.
Many feel FBS and FCS schools shouldn't compete.
But Tulsa head football coach Bill Blankenship thinks there are still good reasons to play the lower level programs.
"There are some really, really, really good FCS teams that continue to win. There are upsets every year." Blankenship said, "I'm not big into stereotyping teams because of where they play. We get face a lot with that in Conference USA and I don't think that's appropriate. By the same token we're always looking to have games that can challenge us and we can grow in. I expect that this week."
The odds are against the FCS schools as you can imagine. The overall record is staggering. 1838-396-18 in favor of the bigger FBS schools.
Tulsa is 33-2 against FCS schools. Their last loss was to Northern Arizona (24-20) back in 19-87.
The Golden Hurricane will face Nicholls State Saturday night at 6:00pm at Chapman Stadium.
