Broken Arrow Chamber Says Manufacturing Companies Need Workers

Posted: Updated:

Business is booming in Broken Arrow. The Chamber of Commerce announced this afternoon that several companies are looking for highly skilled workers. In fact, there are more than three hundred manufacturing companies that need at least one person each.

"We need trained C and C machinists. We need welders. We need fitters. We need people that can build things and whether it's for the energy sector or aviation, we need workers," says Broken Arrow Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation President, Wes Smithwick.

Smithwick says they need them now.

"You can have all the orders you want but you can't grow if you don't have the people and the machines and tools to build them. You get a back log," says Smithwick.

One of the companies in need is CymSTAR. They have been in the Tulsa area for nine years and are looking to pay pretty well for engineers and they say that benefits everyone.

"It means that everyone benefits because we have individuals with high paying jobs that buy more local things in the economy and hopefully spurs growth in the other industries in the area," says Chief Operating Officer, Alex Nick.

These companies say the added bonus to working in Oklahoma is the cost of living is lower than other parts of the country where manufacturing jobs are. The city is doing everything they can to market Broken Arrow but the companies are glad they are in the position of growth and needing these workers.

"Our objective is to grow the company 25 to 30 percent a year and we have been successful at doing that," says Nick.
