City of Tulsa to see first ever bike racks downtown next month

Residents downtown will begin seeing the first ever bike racks installed by the city beginning in October.

A city council meeting announced today the installation of 100 bike racks around Tulsa with most of them located in the downtown area. The racks will be placed at nearly every intersection downtown and will be ready before spring 2013.

The bike racks were announced back in May during National Bike to Work week and are part of a pilot program to see whether the City of Tulsa should add more bike racks around the city. Descriptive maps and images show where the racks will go and what they will look like.

Earlier this year city councilors passed a Complete Streets resolution which prioritizes providing convenient pedestrian, bicycle and public transit facilities as one of its objectives.
