He's had the vision to help make Owasso one of Green Country's hottest communities, but Rodney Ray didn't see the left hook coming from city hall.
"I was a little blind-sided by this," he said.
Word that city councilor Patrick Ross does not want to renew Mr. Ray's contract as city manager.
"He makes rash decisions, he acts impulsively, he overlooks things," he said.
"I think councilor Ross he's one of those people who's strategy for government is no, and no's not a strategy," said Ray.
"I think Owasso has simply outgrown Mr. Ray's administrative and leadership ability," said Ross.
"In Owasso our number one goal is to make us this community as strong 20 years from now for investors and homeowners that it has been over the last 20 years," said Ray.
How many times has Ray heard from Ross about his displeasure with his job performance?
"Councilor Ross has never said one thing to me personally that said I'm unhappy with your leadership," said Ray.
"I haven't thought it would be fruitful, it's not something that I thought was necessary," said Ross.
In fact, up until now, Ross paints an almost playful picture.
"Rodney and I have had our words, pillow fights I call them," said Ross.
Tuesday, the pillows get dropped.
"Nothing in my opinion is worse than trying to deliberately destroy the trust between the citizens and the people who work for them and I think that may be what's going on here," said Ray.
