New Record Low For Mortgage Rates

Posted: Updated:

Mortgage rates have fallen to record low levels. Mortgage finance backer Freddie Mac's weekly survey found the average 30-year-fixed rate fell to three-point-49 percent last week. That's down from three-point-55 percent the previous week. It matches the previous record low set in July.

The fixed-rate for a 15-year mortgage also reached a new record low-- two-point-77 percent.
Last week, the Fed announced it would buy 40-billion-dollars in mortgage backed securities each month for the foreseeable future in order to spur economic activity. It's a move that's expected to also drive rates down.
