As cute as they may be, as adorable as doggedly possibly, when it comes to canines, Green Country has an over abundance.
"We have more than we need here in the Tulsa community," said shelter director Jean Letcher.
To help save them, the shelter goes to great lengths. Literally.
"Up to Golden Valley, Minnesota," she said.
It's there where every month, anywhere between 25 and 40 Tulsa dogs find new homes.
"A lot of the puppies are spoken for before they're even unloaded, they've got waiting lists for young animals," she said.
Why the difference in supply between there and here?
"Communities in the Northeast and the north have gotten the spay/neuter message," she said.
And so, part of the message from here is help us deliver them.
"It's really a fun rewarding experience," she said.
The shelter relies on volunteers to make the 24-hour round trip.
"Some people grab a breakfast, turn around and drive back, others catch a few hours of sleep, and then drive back," she said.
The October trip is all set for drivers, but if you'd like chauffeur duties in a month or two.
"We're looking for November, December volunteers," she said.
