While
the Internet has revolutionized the world, it also has its pitfalls.
For
example, we can end-up wasting a lot of time navigating through the complex system.
One
study says, most of us burn 70-minutes a day on dead-end searches.
Tech
writer Jennifer Jolly has some suggestions on how to cut down on lost
time.
She
says the number one thing you should do, if you don't the good results
from a search, is to change search engines.
Jolly
says Bing is currently challenging Google, so Bing is offering a
comparison search tool.
It's
called Bing It On and it will show you the results from both web site
for comparison purposes.
Jolly
says the lost time on the Internet is a staggering problem for
businesses and individuals.
One
estimate says people in this country burn a total of 100,000 years of wasted
time on the Internet each and every month.
She
recommends a site called SaneBox to help you stop killing time, when
you're dealing with your email clutter.
She
says the site will sort out your email and toss out the spam you
don't want.
For
businesses she recommends a site called RescueTime.
It
can provide you with a running count of how you're spending your
Internet time.
It
can also be used to block the use of sites like Facebook, or all of
the Internet during work hours.
Jolly
says the Internet is a wonderful tool if we put it to good use.
But
unless we're careful, it can be a tremendous drain on our time and
productivity.
