Tulsa's New Trash System: "Pay As You Throw"

Posted: Updated:

We're less than a week away from a major transition in Tulsa's trash service.

And city officials want everyone to be informed about all of the changes.

For example, did you know that if your trash bin is full and you need to throw-out even more, it's going to cost you?

The new program has been coined "pay as you throw".

Eventually, you'll need to purchase stickers for 50 cents from QuikTrip for any additional trash bags.

However, the city is cutting everyone a break and the first 10 stickers are free.

"One of the things we want customers to be on the lookout," say Liz Hunt, Solid Waste Representative. "They'll receive a mailing marked 'trash stickers'. Inside there will be 10 complimentary refuse stickers to get customers started with the new program."

Green waste, like grass clippings and leaves, will need to go in clear plastic bags. They will be marked with a lime green sticker, that also costs 50 cents. The stickers will not be required until February.

If you haven't received your carts yet, we're told they should arrive in the next two days.
